In Him I Trust By Nako

“The lesson that he was learning was that the ones closest to you could hurt you the most.”

Synopsis:

“The Champ is here”

Four choice words that the heavy-weight champion of the world assumed he would hear until he chose otherwise, certainly not the other way around.

Lies. Speculation. Deceit.

Trust Ashley James went from being on top of the world to under it in less than eighteen minutes.

With his back against the ropes, he had no choice but to isolate until further notice.

When he returns to the ring, he’s a new man. A better man.

A man that one woman had been praying for all along.

My Book Review:

Let me start by saying this book will limit a fire in your back to do better and be better!

Nako preached in this book—there are so many lessons about choosing God, having faith, and letting him lead your life. This made the book so beautiful. I shed tears a few times. This book was perfect for me.

While there are romantic elements to this story, it is a true redemption story of family betrayal and the world champion overcoming all the obstacles thrown at him.

I really enjoyed this book! Even though it was very wordy, I'm proud to say I didn't even skim the pages—, that show locked in I was. But it could've been 200 pages less. In my opinion, some things were brought up but never settled.

Random thoughts and possible spoilers:

Kendrick was truly horrible, money-hungry, and jealous of his flesh and blood. It's wild to me how they all played the victim. Like this man carried gallon his back, and the minute a storm comes, yy' ’ll can't even check on him? LET'S BE SO FOR REAL!

Whitney was so annoying at times. She didn't know when to take her foot off the gas. I'm glad her therapist called her out on it. It would've been nice for Trust to go to therapy, too.

There were a few parts of the book that I didn't understand why they were mentioned, like Paige's battle with infertility, hosting her book club at the house, or even his and Whitney's disagreements. Sometimes, we never saw the resolution of it all.

This book also mentions characters from other books, but in my opinion, it is truly a standalone. It'll be nice to know these characters' backstories, but I could read between the lines until I get into the Underworld series.
