My Pandemic Wedding Story-Part 1

The pandemic shut down our original wedding date, April 12, 2020. We wanted to choose a date exactly one year from our proposal, which was April 11, 2020. The venue we fell in love with only had April 12th available, which was also Easter. My husband and I were like, "What’s better than getting married on Easter Sunday?" So we went with it.

As the world started turning upside down, beginning with our bachelor and bachelorette trips, we were still determined to have OUR big wedding on OUR date. Then, the world shut down, and we had to announce postponing the wedding. As a bride who has been counting down the days, and to get so close to being stopped, was devastating. I cried, I felt like I wasn’t worthy of having good things like whyyyy did the pandemic have to ruin everything?

God put me in check real quick! I had to realize that I wasn’t the only one hurting in the world. People lost their jobs, students couldn’t graduate, and the world got sick.

We were given 3 dates to reschedule our wedding, so we chose the latest date, June 21st, hoping the world would be safe by then. Then, we decided to get officially married on our original date. That is the date we had been looking forward to, so why pause God’s union just because the big party couldn’t happen? Our marriage counselor, officiant, and cousin swooped in and married us on the original date despite everything happening. It was a small ceremony with immediate family and was honestly perfect. No distractions, no pomp and stance, no dog and pony show, just the people who meant the world to us and who directly impacted who we were as individuals. It was a blessing for them to witness us joining those two lives into one.

We have no regrets about the intimate ceremony and would recommend it to couples with issues over venue and date. God knew what he was doing when he constructed this entire process.
